The theme of camp meeting 2008 was "Campaign for Hope: A Change Is Coming." The meetings during the week took place at the Mt. Rubidoux church in Riverside. As usual, attendees were able to choose from many workshops and seminars, ranging from health and spiritual topics to sports activities and dramatic presentations.
Events on Sabbath, the final day, took place at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove. The simple architecture is awe inspiring, but in the end, it was merely the icing on the cake. The fellowship, communion with fellow believers and the message of the main speaker made the day memorable. Two thousand adults were present to hear E. Dean Peeler presenting his message, “Profile of a Good Man.”
In addition to the adult church service, there also were youth and children’s services in other locations. With Wade Forde, assistant pastor at CrossWalk, as their presenter, the youth got to experience special music with J.R., the musician. More than 200 children enjoyed the creative programs that were geared directly to them.
An ordination-commissioning service took place that afternoon in the Freed Theater adjacent to the cathedral. Pastor Baron Anthony Savory was ordained-commissioned by conference administrators and colleagues. Allen Savory, Baron’s father, preached a sermon for his son. The candid and clear message reminded listeners of the colossal responsibility of a pastor, counselor and preacher.
