When Steve Wohlberg, speaker/director of White Horse Media, in Fresno, Calif., was contacted by the chaplain’s office of the U.S. Pentagon to speak on the book of Revelation, he was astounded.
Colonel William Broome, a Seventh-day Adventist and the Pentagon’s chaplain, was planning a series on the book of Revelation for the Wednesday morning Bible studies he leads. “The approach was to present the four main views of Revelation through speakers from different denominations,” Broome explains.
The series, from September through January, included several noted speakers. Wanting to include the historical (or historicist) view of Revelation, Broome invited Wohlberg to present at least some part of the Adventist interpretation. Broome left the exact topic up to Wohlberg, who says he immediately began to pray, “Lord, what shall I speak about?"
"In time, His impression became clear—America in Bible prophecy,” Wohlberg explains.
About 70 to 80 Pentagon personnel regularly attend the weekly prayer breakfast and Bible study, Broome says. “A guest speaker can draw up to 200 people.”
On November 7, about 100 people listened carefully to Wolhberg's Bible study on Revelation 13:11-17, which ended with an appeal to follow the Lamb and to reject the dragon’s voice. “It was fantastic!” says Broome.
Currently three Adventist chaplains serve in leadership positions in the nation’s capital: Retired Admiral Barry Black, U.S. Senate; Major Jonathan McGraw, Office of Army Command Policy Branch, Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1; and Broome, Pentagon.
