At Peace with Muslims

Mark Carr's article "Living in Peace with Everyone" (Dec. 2007) infers...that there is a moral equivalency between biblical Christianity and fundamentalist Islam. But the "lunatic fringe of Christianity" looks mild, reasonable and even altruistic when compared to many main stream Islamic societies, leave alone the fanatic Jihadists.

Given the chance, Islam will demolish the freedoms that are the "inalienable right," endowed upon us by our "Creator." This is their mission. They are bound to do this in order to be faithful to their Allah.

Hospital Food

Responding to story: Adventist Health Takes a Fresh Approach to Food Service (Nov. 2007).

It is exciting to hear that Adventist health is focusing on the importance of nutrition in the recovery of patients in their facilities. My wife recently was a patient in the Feather River Hospital and was pleased by the quality of the food. It is important to be able to provide food to patients which they will enjoy eating.

However, the desire to provide food that patients will enjoy needs to be combined [with] the goal of being leaders in health reform in the community.

Undocumented Sabbath-Keeper

It is very troubling to me that the "undocumented" reality of this employee was on the headline. Now that Mr. Lopez is being spotlighted as being undocumented, pressure may be brought to deport Mr. Lopez. I have seen this happen before.

Richard Suarez

As stated in the story, Oscar Lopez was not the employee's real name. --editors.

Am I alone in seeing a curious and seemingly clear hypocritical conflict...between the championing...for a person involved in an "undocumented" (and yes, illegal) lifestyle, while amazingly and coincidently, coming heavily down upon another act, deemed to be illegally oppressive and worthy of the church's strong legal response-- because it has to do with the "victim's" religious liberty? ...I've found that our youngsters are often confused by these type of legal word games and sly politicized agendas. You can't (or at least, shouldn't) be able to have it both ways.

Legal action against the employer was initiated by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, not by the church. —Alan Reinach

Video Uploads

Responding to story: Pacific Union Calls for Video Uploads.

After reading this article, I found it to be one of the best ways to share ministry ideas within our christian community. Like YouTube, SpiritFlash.org is a great tool for communicating the gospel message.

Errors and Orchids

In the November Recorder, page 28, our denominational name is spelled "Seventh Day Adventist." On page 29 it is "Seventh-day Adventist." Since the Church has adopted the latter, I suggest that it be used uniformly.

Now I'll put on my other hat: The Pacific Union Recorder is excellent, in my opinion, good writing, good graphics, good reporting. It's something to be humbly proud of. Orchids to all of you, editors, printers, and everyone between.
