Fifteen student LEs (literature evangelists) from the SOULS West training school in Arizona knocked on approximately 15,000 doors in early November to share God’s word in the Southern California Conference. The student LEs were hosted by the Living Stones Church in La Crescenta during the two-week “blitz.”
LE Emily Metzker spoke with a 16-year-old boy in one home, showing him a Final Events DVD and the book, The Great Controversy. “I have been wondering about this,” the teen told her, “and was even praying this morning that God would bring me information about the topic of prophecy.”
Along with distributing hundreds of books, the students discovered 178 interests, including 82 individuals who signed up for Bible studies. One student LE, Izraias, encountered 19 Bible-study interests. “It is no coincidence that, in a time like this, young people in the world are searching for answers to difficult questions,” he said, “and at the same time that canvassers their age are at their doors with the answers they desperately need.”
“I do God’s work not because I’ve seen God, but because I have seen what He has done,” Eugene Barajas responded when questioned by an atheist.
Emely Garcia spoke with a 20-year-old man whom she cautioned about not just believing everything that sounds nice. “Sometimes truth does hurt,” she said, “but God will hold accountable those who have heard the truth. If I tell you right now that Jesus is coming soon, which is the truth, and you choose not to believe it, when He comes back, he will tell you, ‘Remember when that girl came to your door and told you that I was coming, and yet you chose not to believe?’”
“Why did you come?” the man asked, realizing his accountability to truth.
In addition to the two-week blitz, the SCC Student Literature Ministries department sponsors “Youth Rush,” a 10-week summer program. This program will begin June 8, providing scholarships and a faith-building experience for all who are involved.
