Orchids for Health Report

I've read with fascination the report on Adventist health in the October Recorder. Congratulations to Don Ammon and hundreds of others who made such an account possible. Orchids, too, to Shawna Malvini for her lively, readable reporting, even to the all-you-can-eat banana splits and the women's leaky pipe problems. (I bet that last item wouldn't have been included in a Recorder story fifty years ago!)

One question. Where does all the money come from? $80 million for the Bakersfield hospital, $180 million for Glendale, $112 million for Hanford, $50 million for Willits, $58 million for Simi Valley, and unspecified sums for many other places. I am almost bowled over to learn about the Willits building, that "the $50 million facility will include 25 beds"!

Seriously, I share Shawna's enthusiasm for Adventist health care. Almost ten years ago my aorta split open and I was rushed to a big Adventist hospital for emergency surgery. A couple of outstanding surgeons pulled me through, and during the twelve days that I spent in the hospital I met a lot of caring, capable people, some of the best in the world. I think we should be humbly proud of our thousands of people in the healing arts.

Onward and Upward

Responding to story: Church Seeks to Improve Quality of Life for Community Residents [Oct. 2007]. I was impressed seeing the Hollywood church leading out in such a worthy and community event and endeavor. To see and seek the need "right where we live" is following in the footsteps of Jesus. Continued blessings as you carry on...ever upward and onward. Amen!

Adventist Motorcyle Ministry

Responding to story: Sabbath Keepers Motorcycle Ministry Rumbles Through Biker Community [Oct. 2007]. I really enjoyed this article. Here in Hawaii, we are trying to start a motorcycle group and we appreciate the ideas of what an Adventist motorcycle club can do for its community. Thanks again for writing this article.

Responding to story: Sabbath Keepers Motorcycle Ministry Rumbles Through Biker Community. I was raised a Seventh-day Adventist. I have not gone to church in years. I own a Harley and was sent this article by an old friend. Keep up the good work.

Missing Data

I'm writing in response to the article "Claymore-Ross Joins Holbrook as Principal" by Barbara Willis [Oct. 2007]. I cannot help but feel that it [the article] could have been longer, due to the fact that Dr. Ross' educational and professional achievements are considerable. I'm curious to know from which universities she received her Bachelors in Elementary Education, Masters in Elementary Education/Minor in Indian Studies and Doctorate in Education. Also, I would like to know the names of the three different American Indian schools where she served as a curriculum director as well as the institutions where she taught for five years, was an elementary school principal, a federal programs director and the special education cooperative where she served as executive director.

The editors respond: Space limits what the Recorder can print, but in this case we printed all the information sent to us. For more about Janet Claymore-Ross and Holbrook Indian School visit www.hissda.org.
