Two Ordained at Arizona Camp Meetings
Phil Draper

George Garrick

George Garrick, pastor of the Wickenburg church, and his wife, Charlotte, moved to Arizona from Tennessee. He participated in renovating and remodeling his first church in Springerville, resulting in a facility award in that town.

Now the Garricks pastor in Wickenburg, Ariz., where they jumped straight into another facility update. Today the renovated church has gleaming brass railings, large flat-screen television monitors and a new electric grand piano, making it an inviting and comfortable place for members and guests alike.

Evangelism is a way of life for Garrick. He was baptized by evangelist Rainey Hooper in the late 1950s. "The thing that keeps us going each day is the reality that Jesus is coming soon," says Garrick. "We want to help the work move forward to the end so that many precious souls can be won for the Kingdom of God."

The Garricks have four grown daughters and eight grandchildren.

Virgilio Huerta

Virgilio Huerta was born into a large family of devout Catholics in a small town in Mexico. He and his family of 12 children were faithful to the Catholic church. As a youth, Huerta helped the priest with the church services and dreamed of one day entering in the work of the church in some capacity, possibly the priesthood.

However, in 1975 brothers Ricardo and Adelfo found the Adventist Church and brought the message back to their family. They felt it was their duty to prepare their younger brothers to accept the gospel of Jesus Christ and join the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Soon the entire family was actively involved in colporteur ministry. Huerta is the fifth brother to become an Adventist minister.

In 1977, Huerta moved to San Diego, Calif., where he worked as a colporteur for seven years. Then he worked in Arizona for four more years, during which he combined literature ministry with public evangelism.

Huerta received his B.A. in theology from Montemorelos University in 1997 and a B.A. from Southwestern Bible College in Independence, Mo.

Today the Huertas pastor in Yuma and San Luis. "Our churches are like family to us," says Huerta. "We are very thankful for their tremendous support and love."

Huerta and his wife, Lilia, have three children — Heber, Seth and Gabriel.
