In an increasingly postmodern Asian/Pacific society, it becomes more and more challenging to evangelize this Internet generation. This is especially relevant among those 15 to 35. Their worldview is very different from traditional thinking. However, there is no culture, tradition or thinking that the power of the gospel cannot penetrate. Through a relational approach in evangelism, the Holy Spirit has blessed our ministry in all points.
During this last quinquennium, the Lord added 2,085 more souls to our Asian/Pacific membership, which now totals 17,829. Faithfulness by the members in returning the tithe to Gods storehouse totaled $63,033,129. Asian/Pacific members make up 8.38 percent of the total union constituency, and they are contributing 8.41 percent of the union tithe.
A dynamic church growth program is emphasized every January when pastors and other church workers meet for a spiritual retreat and plan for the years work. In a very organized manner, the 12 language groups under this department separately meet and plan for the advancement of their respective work.
Through the EMPOWER Program, led by Pastor Robin Park, our youth are trained to witness specifically to their generation. This is an intercultural training program that emphasizes the Holy Spirits power in witnessing. It meets each summer in different areas of the union.
Led by Pastor VicLouis Arreola, a lay training school is being developed in the Northern California Conference. This lay training school enrolls Asian/Pacific peoples of all ages.
Believing in leadership by example, Caroline, my wife, and I lead out in three, sometimes four evangelistic meetings or seminars each year. We also have responded to invitations overseas to conduct evangelistic seminars. The Lord has blessed our ministries with more than 10,000 baptized souls.
Conscious of the present truth that Christ is coming soon, the Asian/Pacific ministers are dedicating themselves to telling the good news to those who are still in the darkness of sin. We believe that Christ will not come until the work among the Asian/Pacific peoples is also finished.
