Girls Guard Their Purity in an Impure World
By Shirley Chipman
Organized and directed by Hispanic Women’s Ministries of the Arizona Conference, November’s first one-day program for young girls ages 11-18 was a great success.
Guest speaker Be Davis shared God’s principles for life and how important it is for the girls to keep their bodies clean in a world where temptations and immoral living surround everyone. "The secret is helping to teach these young women to know the Lord," said Davis. "Psalm 119:9 says that by reading His Word and putting it into action, we can know who we are in Christ and learn morals, values, choices, attitudes and faith to stand in a difficult and challenging world."
Maria Felix Denneny presented a seminar on drugs, alcohol and behavior. She addressed the dangers of drug use, types of drugs, and the consequences of addiction, as well as how to say no to peer pressure.
One attendee shared a personal story of a near-tragic event in her own life due to depression — and of her joy at finding that help is available to troubled teens. The girls learned to find strength in themselves by having a personal relationship with God through prayer and reading the Bible, and especially in knowing Jesus as a personal friend.
