Not Just For Girls
The guys didn’t want to be left out, so they planned a simultaneous Purity Weekend. Held at the Modesto Central church with speaker Anil Kanda, a Bible worker and youth pastor from Arroyo Grande, the “graduates” received a certificate at the session’s end.
“It was really cool,” says John Candela, a junior. “It changes the way you look at girls. It’s more than just looks.”
Kanda, who was raised Hindu, says there are a lot of similarities between the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy and the way his dad raised him. “He engrained standards in my own heart [about how to treat women]. Guys really need to hear about this.”
During the middle ages, Kanda says, knighthood was very chivalrous. There was an unspoken code of honor about the way a man should treat a lady.
First, he should seek to set a woman's honor above his own.
Second, a man was to have all manners of respect.
Third, a man was to be a protector of ladies and be ready to defend her honor at all costs.
Godly ways to treat a woman
• Always open doors for a lady
• Defend women against any insults
• Be heroic — live life to save lives
• Talk carefully around women — no nasty stuff
• Compliment a lady's smarts
• Be a leader spiritually amongst your peers
• Don't be a fake — everyone can tell
