Music is an integral part of the school program at South Bay Junior Academy. Christmas and spring musical programs, formerly accompanied by professional accompaniment CDs, are now being accompanied live by the school band, The SoundWaves, directed by Aubrey Scarbrough. Recently, SoundWaves participated in a regional band festival at La Sierra Academy.

According to Principal Susan Vlach, the band’s development is the result of “a lot of work on the part of Scarbrough and fundraising and support from The SoundWaves Booster Club. SBJA would not have this kind of music program without Aubrey. It takes his kind of dedication and passion.”
