Fifty years ago, the It Is Written ministry made history when it became the first Christian television program to broadcast in color. Now, once again, the ministry has embraced technology as a tool for sharing the gospel. As of January 2006, anyone with a computer and a connection to the Internet can access It Is Written’s new video podcasts via iTunes.

Video podcasting allows people to “subscribe” to online videos that automatically download to the individual’s Mac or PC computer whenever a new broadcast is added. Subscription isn’t the only method, however — users also have the option of downloading the individual broadcasts of their choice. These programs are high quality, easy to access, and in the case of It Is Written, free.

Pastor Shawn Boonstra, It Is Written’s speaker/director, enthusiastically spoke about this new development. “These days, more and more people prefer to watch television ‘on demand,’” said Boonstra. “Now when a person feels the urging of the Holy Spirit on their heart, they won’t have to wait until the next broadcast — plus they can keep and re-watch the programs on their desktop, laptop or video iPod!”

Boonstra’s recent five-night series on the Second Coming, called The Appearing, was the first It Is Written series to be added to iTunes as a video podcast in both English and Spanish. Boonstra believes that adding it to iTunes will encourage people to attend The Appearing’s graduate course, Revelation Speaks Peace — Unlocking the Signs, at a church near them in March 2006.

In addition, the weekly telecast is now available for people to download via subscription or as individual telecast downloads. Plus as a complement to the full-length video podcasts, in the very near future, Boonstra will record exclusive 2-3 minute video podcasts in which he will address current events from a biblical perspective.
