James E. Pedersen Elected
By Jennifer M. Won
When James E. Pedersen graduated from Pacific Union College with a bachelors degree in history, he intended to go on to law school. However, upon graduating, Pedersen felt called in another direction. After fervent prayer and consideration, Pedersen dedicated his life to doing Gods work in the ministry.
Today, Pedersen is the new president of the Northern California Conference. On Dec. 14, the conference executive committee voted to elect Pedersen, former NCC executive secretary, as its new leader.
Im overwhelmed at the level of support from the executive committee and those in the field, said Pedersen. Im humbled at the largeness of the task, but Im also confident to know that this is not a human task; I will depend on the Spirit of God to accomplish His work here.
Debi, Pedersen's wife, is equally grateful for the support of the churches and members of the NCC. I couldnt be more pleased that hes been called to be the president of the Northern California Conference, she said. We love this conference. When we travel around to speaking appointments, its wonderful to meet people and hear their love for this conference, too.
As Pedersen transitions into his new role, he will draw on his years of ministerial and administrative experience. After graduating with his second bachelors degree in theology at PUC and his Master of Divinity degree from the Andrews University Theological Seminary, Pedersen pastored for more than 20 years in various churches throughout California. Along with this passion for ministry, Pedersen has developed a special interest in administration. I believe administration is an important form of ministry, and Id like to combine the ministry aspect of it with the gifts God has given me.
Ricardo Graham, former NCC president, has full confidence in Pedersens ability to fulfill his new role. I have really enjoyed having Jim as part of my administrative team, and on a personal level, he has become a good friend, said Graham. This is a great conference to lead. I am sure his enthusiasm for the continuation of the Lords work in California will serve this conference well.
Pedersen officially assumes his new role on Feb. 1. As the new president, Pedersen plans to continue the work that Graham began with equal dedication and fervor.
As I begin to fulfill my new role at the NCC, I plan to keep the conference moving positively forward as it has been, said Pedersen. I want to continue to foster and facilitate the concept of Every member a minister, every pastor an equipper. I want to continue fostering a positive and close relationship with our educators and the students.
As the Northern California Conference welcomes Pedersen as its new president, its members also value the contributions that Graham made during his ministry and wish him Gods continued blessings in his new role as the executive secretary at the Pacific Union Conference.
