Puppets Travel the World
By Edna Maye Gallington
Puppets are little fabric “critters” that give animation and character to stories. But they do more than entertain; they rivet Bible lessons in the minds of children.
During the past two years, 216 of these puppets have made their way to Peru, El Salvador, Mexico, Russia and Africa. Created by the community services team of the Redlands church, the puppets travel with The Quiet Hour evangelists to various countries where they illustrate children’s programs. When the meetings end, the puppets stay and are used in local Sabbath school classes.
About group of about 20 volunteers make these puppets for The Quiet Hour. The last shipment went out in October. Presently the volunteers are sewing more puppets for future trips.
With each set of puppets, a set of felt cut-outs for storytelling is included. The puppets don’t just “tour the world,” they “live” in their new country to bring cheer and Bible lessons to the children.
