Ground Broken for New Retirement Community in Glendale
Betty Cooney
On Oct. 3, Adventist workers and community guests gathered in Glendale to break ground for a new independent-living retirement community. Adjacent to the Southern California Conference office building, Scholl Canyon Estates is planned as a four-story, 95-unit facility with studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments. An underground parking garage will be shared with SCC office workers.
The Glendale Adventist Academy Band, directed by Craig Mohr, provided a selection of musical numbers for the program. In his message, Larry L. Caviness, SCC president, shared the conference dream for the new facility. “We are pleased to provide this beautiful facility to the residents of Glendale for their comfort and enjoyment,” he said. “We believe you will be delighted with the final product and welcome both the facility and its operators to the City of Glendale.”
Responding from the community were Scott Reiner, CEO of the Glendale Adventist Medical Center, and Bill Colson, founder of Colson & Colson Construction and of Holiday Retirement Corporation, Glendale former Mayor Larry Zarian and Judy Kendall, executive director, Glendale Chamber of Commerce. Rita Hadjimanoukian represented the office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.
During the ceremony, Caviness told the audience, “For this joint venture, SCC has chosen to partner with the Holiday Retirement Corporation, a company that has a proven track record in quality and successful retirement community construction and management around the world. This new retirement community is clearly what the community and the church desire,” he added.
“The construction project is a first in Glendale, involving close cooperation with the city by the Southern California Conference, the Glendale Adventist Medical Center and Adventists in Glendale. And I hope it’s not the last such collaborative venture.”
Scholl Canyon Estates is expected to open in January 2008. For further information, call 800-322-0999.
