Two LLUMC Nurses Honored for Caring Service

Two nurses from Loma Linda University Medical Center were honored with an award that highlighted professionalism and a “caring spirit” in their field.
At the third annual Caring Spirit Awards, held July 26 at the Riverside Convention Center, Jan Zumwalt, RN, MS, MBA, and Kimmie Copen, RN, received their awards. The program is sponsored by the Riverside Press Enterprise newspaper.
Zumwalt is executive director of advanced practice nursing. She received the Award for Professional Achievement for Advancement. Zumwalt has developed nursing services in China, and more recently, in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Copen received the Excellence in Community Service Award for her extensive work with at-risk youth, including gang members.
Zumwalt and Copen represented two of the 11 winners out of the more than 200 nominations for the Caring Spirit Awards.
