Playground Initiated at SAJA
By Debi Davis
Dr. Keith Plummer and Virginia, his wife, were the guests of honor at a dedication service for new playground equipment earlier this year at San Antonio Junior Academy.
Southeastern California Conference Education Superintendent Don Dudley, then-interim Associate Superintendent Norman Powell, and SCC Associate Superintendent Bob Dennis attended the service. The new playground is named Plummer's Playground, honoring Keith Plummer’s dedication to Christian education.
Late in 2004, Dr. Plummer began to raise money for the school’s dream of having new equipment, raising more than $37,000 from private donations for safe, modern play equipment. Assembly costs alone totaled more than $10,000.
Dr. Plummer, volunteers and students spent weeks assembling the equipment. After a Monday-morning chapel, students and faculty gathered outside to thank Jesus for people like Dr. Plummer who are supportive of Christian education. The school’s new band played for the occasion. Children expressed appreciation to Dr. Plummer and explained how much the playground meant to them.
As of July 1, a new agreement between Southern and Southeastern California conferences placed SAJA under the exclusive supervision of SECC. From 1990 to that date, the school’s supervision had been shared by the two conferences.
