God's "Right Arm" Works for the Salvation of Souls
By Phil Draper
A youthful exuberance fills the countenance of Chris and Lela Lewis as they recount the miracles they see God doing for their medical ministry, "Right Arm of Love." Drs. Lewis, both graduates of Loma Linda University School of Medicine, have dedicated their lives to helping win the multitudes for Jesus and His opening wedge is their health ministry.
During recent evangelistic meetings held by Evangelist Jay Warren in Scottsdale, Chris and Lela worked diligently to prepare health talks that would complement the sermons and open doors for ministry. They prepared handbills and posters, made numerous media contacts, and were often amazed to see doors open.
Drs. Lewis will use the valuable lesson they learned to prepare for the upcoming satellite meetings in 2006. "We now realize that God has been working on this city [Phoenix] preparing for Net 2006 for more than two years. We already have more than 2,000 interested people in our database listing. These are people who want Bible studies and who have questions about our health message. We will use them for Bible worker contacts for the It Is Written meetings with Sean Boonstra next March."
Lela had the opportunity to meet Eileen Bowen, host anchor for a Phoenix based broadcast, "Eventide," and recorded six hours of prime time health lectures which received a very positive response. Channel 5, a CBS affiliate, as well as Channel 3, asked Lela to be a personal news physician correspondent.
The prime time spots led to recording three shows with international gospel television network, TBN. The shows were recorded and aired in June. Responding to the possibility of becoming a media celebrity, Lela says, "We are not looking for worldly fame or money, we just want to go home!"
After the telecasts aired, Bowen called to say, "What an extraordinary response your program has been receiving. God clearly called you to these programs and is very definitely using you."
After hearing Chris and Lela present their Christ-centered health message on the telecast, one listener wrote, "It really is all about getting back to the basics and resting in God’s care, isn’t it? I think that I, like so many others, have been looking for the magic bullet, but it doesn’t exist. I would very much be interested in hearing when your next seminar is scheduled."
Another door of opportunity opened as a result of the telecasts. The Lewises were invited to offer a public prayer during the National Day of Prayer activities, May 5. Struggling with the issues concerning the separation of church and state, they asked God for guidance. Through a series of events, they felt God’s answer was a definite "Yes," and they gladly participated in the prayer event.
Upon hearing the Lewis’s radio lecture, the TBN executive called to say, "We want to book you not only for local exposure, but for international as well." There was also the mention of an invitation to speak to the Arizona House of Representatives and Senate.
Chris and Lela are very busy completing their specialty training, have busy medical practices, work actively in public evangelism and constantly look for ways to enhance their health lectures. They also enjoy quality time with their 3-year-old daughter, Hadassah, who often accompanies them to such festive venues as the Arizona State Fair where their health booth is always a center of activity and interest.
