Essays and Artwork Win Awards
By Michele Roderick
Students at Prescott Adventist Christian School recently received their fourth gold medal in the 10th annual Grand Canyon State Games.
Since 2001, students in kindergarten through eighth grade have been participating in the essay contest — and have received a gold medal every year.
This year, the Games essay contest went national. There were 3,724 essays submitted nationwide. In addition to the essay contest, PACS students also submitted drawings in the Games art contest in October for the first time.
Students were required to write and draw about the following themes:
1. Build a proud America; "Practice Peace."
2. Build on your own choices; "Inhale life... be tobacco free."
3. Build with honor; "Tell why it is important to be trustworthy,
responsible, fair and a good sport."
4. Build a strong body, inside and out; "Tell why it is important to eat right, get lots of sleep and make fitness a regular part of your life 24 hours a day."
5. Build self respect and show respect for others; "Tell why sports and play teach teamwork and positive attitude."
