Truth + Spirit Expanding Media Ministry
By Betty Cooney
Pastor Elizabeth Talbot, speaker of the Truth + Spirit contemporary ministry at the Vallejo Drive church in Glendale, Calif., is excited about prospects that are opening up for the church’s media ministry.
“In addition to airing Friday services online, our church has a closed-circuit television link with our next-door neighbor, Glendale Adventist Medical Center,” she said. “Truth + Spirit will be producing program packages that patients can watch in their rooms.”
Expanding the online reach of the ministry and the church, Vallejo Drive senior pastor Smuts Van Rooyen indicated that he intends to broadcast the church’s Sabbath-morning services online in the near future. (For updates on Sabbath a.m. webcasting plans, visit www.graceunconditional.com.)
Since the start of its live Internet broadcasts in August 2004, the Truth + Spirit contemporary Christian ministry has touched many lives locally, as well as in other states and countries. “My move to Arizona has created a disconnect with my church family. It was quite a thrill for me to be able to connect to our church in California and see our ministry in action, live from Glendale,” said Jean L. Paul.
Truth + Spirit is the only Christian ministry in Glendale offering live and recorded services via the Internet. The ministry is using webcasting as leading-edge evangelism that is attracting community viewer response. “Once I heard about Truth + Spirit’s live webcasting, I was intrigued and decided to investigate,” said Ariel Casaya, a local college student. “I was deeply touched. After telling my classmates about my experience, they joined me in watching, and now our study group regularly watches the webcasts during our break.”
The broadcasts are also keeping members in touch with their church when they travel. “Recently my business has required a lot of traveling. With the live broadcast I am connected to my church no matter where I am, and I love it,” said Randy Paul.
“I get overwhelmed with joy when I hear of the positive impact of our webcasting on people’s lives. We are thankful for this new technology that is putting us in touch with people who need us,” said Talbot.
The vision statement for the ministry is "Truth + Spirit Ministries: Their Spirit is worship and their Truth is Jesus Christ." The live webcast is available Fridays at approx. 8:30 p.m. PT at www.truthandspirit.com. Webcast recordings are available on the site for viewing at any time.
