Choir Festival Reminds Youth of Their Call to Excellence of Service
By Ronald Pollard
More than 15 youth and young adult choirs from Greater Los Angeles Region churches participated in the youth and young adult choir festival in the late fall of 2004. The theme of the festival, held at the Ephesus church in South Los Angeles, was “Generation Excellence.”
According to Ronald Pollard, GLA youth director, “The goal of the region’s youth ministry leadership was to encourage all of the region churches to have youth choirs as a vibrant part of their ministry in the local church. We want our young people to be actively involved in connecting to their churches through music,” he said.
Churches from Antelope Valley to Bethel in Pomona participated, along with special-invitation guest choirs from the Kansas Avenue and 16th Street churches in the Southeastern California Conference. The attendance numbered more than 700 as additional chairs were placed along the aisles and set up in overflow rooms of the church.
