Canoga Park Community Church Youth Build Roof
By Will McCall
Youth of Canoga Park Community church held car washes and garage sales to help raise money to build a roof on the Huandoi church in Lima, Peru. Why Huandoi? Many of CPC's members are from Peru; the Huandoi church was built by members of Trebol, the home church of CPC's Peruvian members.
More than $10,000 was raised, more than enough to pay for roofing material and labor.
Then 14 CPC church members, youth and their sponsors went to Peru to help with the work. While there, Pastor William McCall preached at a tent meeting the church was holding, and Oscar Withmory translated. The youth held meetings for children and youth. The church also collected clothing to contribute to the Huandoi Dorcas Society.
After a week in Lima, the group took a week off, touring Inca sites around Cuszco and dropped off school supplies for a mission that teaches street children there.
The Adventist message is spreading like wildfire in Peru. Even though Huandoi church is not yet finished, its members are already planting another church.
The team later received a thank-you letter from the Huandoi church.
Brothers and Sisters of the Canoga Park Church,
It is our pleasure to greet you through this letter, hoping that the Lord Jesus Christ will live forever in your hearts and through His grace be prepared for His coming.
All the members of our church are very grateful for your financial support for the roof of our church. With your great help we have been able to realize this task that will make it possible for us to hold Sabbath school classes and that will enable people to receive studies from the Word of God.
Brothers and sisters, we will keep you in our hearts. The Lord has blessed us abundantly and we hope that He will bless you as well for your hard work.
Sincerely,
Grimaldo Parra, Elder
Manuel Tapia, Elder
Jose Lozano, Secretary
Rodolfo Neyra, Treasurer
