Can You Help?
Dear Adventist Member:
In this issue of the Recorder you found several pages devoted to the progress and challenges of Adventist Health care in the Pacific Union. Our hospitals and health care professionals touch the lives of hundreds of people every day. Every contact is an opportunity to demonstrate the love and care of Jesus lived out in the words and actions of real people. When you are sick, worried, and uncertain, the tender touch of a compassionate person is amplified. In addition, family and friends are also more attune to their need for God and His power in their lives when they are hurting.
“The health institutions connected with the closing work of the gospel in the earth stand for the great principles of the gospel in all its fullness. Christ is the one to be revealed in all the institutions connected with the closing work, but none of them can do it so fully as the health institution where the sick and suffering come for relief and deliverance from both physical and spiritual ailment” (Medical Ministry, p. 27-28).
In our hospitals, we seek to place in leadership roles people who understand our mission and can instill that same philosophy in those around them. Right now we are looking for people to fill nurse leadership positions within our system. So we are coming to you in the hope someone among our members will come forward. Our vice president for delivery of care wrote me this letter:
Dear Tom:
We here at Adventist Health are attempting to find Seventh-day Adventist nurses who might be interested in working at one of our hospitals. We are especially looking for qualified nurse managers and leaders.
In order to carry out Adventist Health’s Christian mission, I feel it is essential that our nurse leaders understand our health care heritage and our commitment to care for the whole person — mind, body and spirit. To this end, I would appeal to your readers to please let us know of any Adventist nurses, particularly nurse executives, who are working in a non-Adventist work environment. We’d love to consider them for executive and managerial positions across our system.
Having spent my entire career in Adventist hospitals, I’m committed to keeping our mission alive and well. Thanks for anything you can do to help us locate qualified nurses in search of a faith-based workplace.
Sincerely,
Wynelle J. Huff
Vice President, Delivery of Care
Adventist Health
If you or someone you know might be interested in filling these vital needs, please call Judy Blair at 888-690-8955. In addition to the current openings, there are several more coming in the future due to retirements.
It is a special blessing when you can earn a living and be directly involved in advancing God’s mission at the same time.
Sincerely your friend,
Tom Mostert, president
