One in the Spirit, One in the Lord
By Gerald Penick, president
We are entering a new year with its joys as well as its challenges. A year with new beginnings and fresh starts.
It was a joyous occasion on November 20, 2004, as I witnessed the baptism of 125 precious souls in Loma Linda, Calif. Earlier that day another 106 were baptized in area churches. All had participated in the six-week Revelation Offers Hope evangelistic series led by Elder Ron Halvorsen. With more baptisms yet to come, the final total could be more than 300.
These individuals were filled with joy as they experienced a new beginning in their walk with the Lord. As I looked at the expressions on their faces I wondered if the days ahead would continue to be ones of happiness as they become assimilated into our church families.
Much of this will be determined by how we relate to them for we must be a people who are known by our love. This love must be seen and felt by every new believer in order to grow in the fullness of Christ. May our love draw them closer to the One who loves us with undying love.
Therefore, let us make this a year when we move out of our comfort zone and demonstrate Christ’s love in our thoughts and actions. Then it can be said, “We are one in the spirit, we are one in the Lord.”
