The Letter Home
PUC Keeps Parents Connected
By Landon Bennett and Lainey S. Cronk
College abounds with two kinds of people: students and teachers. However, another group of important people is closely linked to what transpires on campus: parents.
Students often find it difficult to relay some of the ins and outs of college life to their loved ones back home. For this reason, PUC has taken the task of sending weekly e-mails, called "A Letter Home," to parents about PUC life. Following are excerpts from some of this year’s tales, written by Lainey S. Cronk and Landon Bennett.

Did anyone ever mention that with the renovations of the library’s interior came the removal of the "No Food or Drink" rule? Well, it’s true. Now we can eat in the library. And the comfy armchairs in the magazine section have been so popular that, I noticed yesterday, they are already beginning to show signs of constant use. Meanwhile, the process of refreshing the library continues. The computer lab received a new coat of paint—replacing cold, non-white with warm, deep wine—and a series of sleek black and white photographs by past and current students are adding their grace to the stairwell.

A host of Adventist teachers added to the bustle around the PUC campus last week, as they attended NCC Education Days workshops. Luckily, this crowd was a little less rowdy than the high school basketball students who have inundated the campus this week. These high school basketball tournaments always help college kids recall fond memories of their old alma maters, and many of them stop by the gym to cheer on their former teams.

It is said that spring quarter is a hard quarter because everybody has spring fever. It is also said, however, that winter quarter is a trying quarter because it’s long and gray, and everybody gets mopey and sick. Finally, they say that autumn quarter is tough because we all have to transition from vacation back into “the grind.” But I never hear anything about summer quarter. Obviously, we should all switch over to summer school.

Professor Lary Taylor and I chatted today. He gave me a ring just to pass on some encouraging information. And when I was working in the computer lab last week, my Spanish teacher, Charo, walked to her office with a smile and an “hola.” Two minutes later, she walked back by dropping off a Kit-Kat bar and a note with some friendly words.
You know, the more this letter progresses, the more good memories flood my mind. Teachers have continuously amazed me with their kindness and spontaneity. I realize that for me, the thing that has made PUC a good institution is the great experiences I’ve had with teachers. They’re a dedicated bunch of people who, no matter how much we resent the way they graded our last essay, really do care about our well being.
Parents receive “A Letter Home” every week during the school year. If you would like to join our free mailing list, e-mail pr@puc.edu.
