The 1,300-seat auditorium of the John Muir Middle School in South Central Los Angeles was the site of the Present Truth evangelistic series earlier this year. Pastor Stephen D. Lewis of the Fountain of the World Church conducted the series for nearly three months.
Three baptismal services had taken place by press time, with more than 243 people baptized. At the baptisms conducted at a nearby swimming pool, several candidates were lifted from wheel chairs and carried into the pool. According to Lewis, Approximately 20 youth from my church served as pre-workers, saturating the area with literature and Bible studies for five months before opening night. These young people made contact with more than 5,000 area residents.
The Greater Los Angeles Region Committee of the Southern California Conference and the Fountain of the World Church co-sponsored the series. Pastors Homer Hart, University Church, and Stewart Walker, 54th Street Church, assisted in the meetings.
Follow-up meetings continued at the University Church. The newly-baptized members now worship in one of the three churches involved in the series. Said Lewis, The Lord has blessed us richly.
