Nearly half of the 15 teachers honored during the Alumni Awards Foundation Annual Convention, held Feb. 26-29 in Scottsdale, Ariz., were from Pacific Union schools.
Seven teachers from the Pacific Union were recognized for demonstrating their commitment to excellence and each received a $1,000 grant. They are: Robert Baerg, Monterey Bay Academy; Milo Heinrich, Mesa Grande Academy; Sarah Henderson, Thunderbird Academy; Brenda Mohr, Glendale Adventist Academy; Randy Norton, El Dorado Academy; Harley Peterson, Pine Hills Adventist School; and Anderson Sandiford; Loma Linda Academy.
Other winners included Bruce Bellchambers, Mount Vernon Academy; Jeff Bovee, Milo Academy; Millene Sietie Heslop, Great Lake Adventist Academy; Jerry Lange, Upper Columbia Academy; Jeffrey K. Lauritzen, Collegedale Academy; Arnaldo Mercado, Bermuda Institute; Tom McNeilus, Shenandoah Valley Academy; and Melia Williams, Campion Academy.
Grants were given to three academies for the 2004 Academy Award for Excellence. Andrews Academy in Berrien Springs, Mich., received $15,000 as the third runner-up; Columbia Academy in Battle Ground, Wash., received $20,000 as the second runner-up; Georgia-Cumberland Academy in Calhoun, Ga., received $25,000 as the winner.
Four alumni were honored for their outstanding achievement. They are: Heidi Nelson-Cruz for Public Service; G. Gordon Hadley for Health Science; Alice E. Schultz for Business and Robert B. Summerour for The Arts.
