Berkeley Church to Celebrate Centennial Anniversary
By Beverly Snyder, Church Clerk
The Berkeley Church will host an all-day celebration of 100 years of blessings from the Lord on May 22.
The history of 100 years of continuous work in the Berkeley area will be a featured part of both the morning and afternoon programs. All former members are invited to come prepared to share memories of their time. Current pastor, Ron Pickell, would also like to extend a special invitation to former pastors. "The members are putting in lots of hours to make this a homecoming celebration and fellowship for all who attend," said Pickell.
The service will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a fellowship lunch. The afternoon program will feature sharing of memories by former and present members, combined with a variety of musical numbers.
Expecting more than 100 visitors to join them for the day, Tonya Tyree has her hands full coordinating the noon luncheon, which will be a special time for fellowship. "We will appreciate prepared-ahead-of-time dishes from anyone who wishes to do so,” said Tyree, “and we are prepared to serve in two sittings if necessary."
The centennial committee is preparing a picture board collage, which will be on display in the vestibule. Any pictures, old bulletins, news articles, etc., to be included in this feature can be sent to: 2236 Parker Street, Berkeley, CA 94704. Brief spot-histories will be given featuring those who have gone out from Berkeley to serve in church positions or other witnessing experiences.
For those who would like to attend, but cannot, the committee requests a "memory memo" to be included in a compilation of written materials to be published for those interested. For more information, please contact the Berkeley Church at 510-845-5560 or bsda@pacbell.net.
