Kids Shine in Memory Verse Marathon
By Sandy Bonnet, head elder and youth leader at the 65-member Blythe Adventist Church
At the end of 2001, two brothers began competing between themselves to recite their memory verses from the past quarter for the congregation. Since then, Ralphy and Joey Ortiz have repeated memory verses during a worship service for 12 straight quarters. By the end of 2003, this totaled 156 verses.
Before long, their older sister and a younger brother, Cecy and Diego, took up the challenge. Then the youngest brother, Miguel, and another Sabbath school member, Marae Kalian, accomplished the feat. Along the way, Erika and Tamara Shasky joined them. In the last quarter of 2003, Lentner and Ruben Tom became members of the memory verse team. In our small church family, this has become a special event each quarter.
