Some 55 men and women from Southern California Conference churches participated in the disaster response training held at the SCC office Dec. 7, 2003. The session was the first of a number of sessions scheduled to be held in California.
Dan Robles, Sr., Pacific Union Conference disaster response coordinator; and Leon Sylvester, a Southern California Conference pastor and a certified trainer, led out in training and review sessions conducted throughout the day. In addition to training in steps one and two, members who had received training in the past took part in a review of steps one through five and warehouse management.
Underscoring the scope and gravity of potential need involved in disaster response, Robles encouraged the volunteers to seek additional training in CPR and first aid as soon as possible. He added, The Church of the Brethren will train and certify Adventist women to take care of children in the event of a disaster. Women who want to sign up for that training may contact me.
We have heard from some individuals who learned about the first training session after the fact, and who would like to get involved in subsequent classes. To do this, please plan to come to the state-wide weekend of training scheduled to be held at the Soquel Campground.
