With more than 100 non-Adventists attending and 40 people baptized or joining on profession of faith, the San Diego Broadway Spanish church concluded a five-week series of meetings (May 8 to June 12) with evangelist Eliseo Briseno.
One entire family, the Avelars, was baptized because of the love showed them by their neighbor, Rebecca Moreno, a member of the El Cajon church.
Becoming discouraged with another denomination they were preparing to join, the Avelars began Bible studies with their Adventist neighbor and attended the evangelistic meetings.
Will you baptize me and my family tonight? requested Ignacia Avelar of Maldonado, senior pastor of the San Diego Broadway Spanish church.
As he didnt know the family well, he questioned her further.
What helped me open my heart to the Adventist message was that sister Rebecca loved me and called me sister, Avelar explained. She admired my children for being so well behaved. Last night, Pastor Briseno presented clearly the doctrines I had been praying about. I am convinced that the Seventh-day Adventist Church is Gods true church.
Not only did the Avelar family give their hearts to Jesus, said Maldonado, but 28 people joined them in baptism or profession of faith. Others were baptized on following Sabbaths to bring the total to 40. God is working miracles in the hearts of people and the best is yet to come.
