The program started about four years ago, says Dean Hunt, Ed.D., La Sierra University associate professor of curriculum and instruction and director of the Distance Learning Program. The cost is $375 per credit hour. We even have special incentives right nowtake two classes and get the third free or bring a friend online during spring quarter, and if they take a class get a $100 discount on the nonrefundable costs plus another $100 waived. Courses currently offered at the LSU Distance Learning Program include: masters degree in teaching, masters degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in technology. Also available are Seventh-day Adventist teaching credentials and School of Religion courses on the bachelors degree level. When the LSU Distance Learning Program began in 1999, they had nine students, this last quarter they enrolled 31.
Most of the students in the Distance Learning Program come from California, says Hunt. We have not really advertised the program, but we have connected with some Internet search engines like Yahoo. Our goal is to add five students every two quarters.
