Sow 1 Billion is a world church initiative with an extraordinary goal—to distribute one billion special invitations to study the Bible. Adventist Church members around the globe—no matter what their age, background or experience—are invited to be a part of this unprecedented effort to connect people with God's Word.
Each division of the world Church has designed its own brochures in various languages. Brochures are already being printed, and distribution has started in many regions. The Church in Inter-America has printed 130 million brochures in five languages. In Northern Asia-Pacific, distribution started the first week of September 2003 with the goal of sharing more than 58 million brochures in six different languages. The Church in Southern Asia-Pacific also began distribution in September and has printed 99 million brochures in 23 languages. South America has also begun distributing brochures, with a goal to reach 123 million people.
The brochures offer ways to request Bible studies, by either contacting a local Bible correspondence school or visiting
www.hopetalk.org, a special web site established to offer on-line Bible lessons in up to 100 different languages.
Sow 1 Billion Facts
If all the Sow 1 Billion leaflets were laid end-to-end, they would cover a distance of more than 72,000 miles—enough to circle the globe three times.
The scope of Sow 1 Billion is unprecedented. A mere one percent response rate will result in 10 million requests for Bible studies.
North America is set to begin in early 2004; a total of 25 million invitations will be distributed either personally or by mail.
For an entire week in mid-September, every employee of the South Philippine Union—including janitors, secretaries, department heads and the president—visited 20 major cities and distributed 500,000 Sow 1 Billion brochures.
On the first Sabbath of November on the Caribbean island of Grenada, all church members joined together one Sabbath afternoon to distribute Sow 1 Billion invitations. Across the island, they handed out 50,000 brochures in one afternoon.
Adventists in Taiwan are distributing eight million Bible study invitations—an extraordinary goal considering there are only 4,000 church members.
