New Teachers Bring Expertise to Weimar College
By Shenalyn Page, Director of Education Marketing
Four new teachers have joined the staff of Weimar College at the beginning of its 26th year of providing specialized education to mission-minded Seventh-day Adventist young people.
Kevin Grams
Kevin Grams, new education department chair, brings energy, extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for education. He just spent four years at Andrews University where he received his master’s in history and completed class work for his Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction. In addition to teaching a variety of education classes, he is finishing his dissertation on “The Image of God Motif in the Educational Writings of Ellen G. White.”
Grams is working to update the teacher education curriculum and bring classes into line with Griggs University, Weimar’s affiliate Adventist university.
Melissa Brotton
Dedicated to changing lives through the written word, Melissa Brotton, from Bismarck, N.D., is heading up the English department. She holds a bachelor’s in psychology and master’s degrees in clinical psychology and English. She is currently completing the dissertation for her Ph.D. in English from the University of North Dakota.
Brotton believes that “students should be exposed to quality writing and literature, not just in grammar, style and prose, but also in quality of content.”
“God is the main focus in her classroom, and that allows me to learn English better,” states freshman Andrew Jenkins.
David Grams
David Grams, father of Kevin Grams, brings extensive teaching and pastoral experience to the religion faculty. He is teaching practical application pastoral classes and serving as part-time administrative dean. “I’ll take any class he teaches,” says Rachel Lombart, sophomore English major.
Grams, who holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music, most recently served as senior pastor at the Holland Seventh-day Adventist Church in Michigan. He also taught Bible and music, and led a variety of outreach and media ministries while in Michigan. He served previously at Weimar College and Academy.
Lewis Anderson
Lewis Anderson, M.A., M.Div., M.Th., D.Th., was most recently pastor of the Grand Haven and Wright Seventh-day Adventist churches in Michigan. His pastoral career includes work in the Indiana, Michigan and Minnesota conferences. He also spent 11 years at Korean Union College as a Bible teacher and religion department chair.
“I came to Weimar College because I believe it aims to set a standard in reaching toward the ideals of Adventist education that is worthy of imitation,” says Anderson. As a religion professor, he is teaching church history, Revelation, Bible doctrines, Old Testament history, prophecy and more.
“I’m excited about our new teachers,” says Dr. Randy Horning, academic dean of Weimar College. “They’re highly-qualified teachers that bring into our classrooms a valuable, biblically-based education.”
“The new teachers are excellent!” says Jenkins. “Everyone of them has so much to offer.”
Weimar College is an ASI-member college offering four-year degrees in religion, health, education, English and liberal studies, and certification programs in vegetarian culinary arts and therapeutic massage and hydrotherapy. Curriculum includes weekly outreach activities and work education. The college is certified by the state of California and affiliated with Griggs University.
