Women as Single Parents is a new organization in the Inland Empire that provides resources in parenting skills, finances, careers and education. Founder/director Rosita Antonio, a single career mother herself, presented the kick-off seminar July 27 during Camp Meeting 2003 at the Drayson Center in Loma Linda.
Attended by about 35 single mothers, the two-hour event featured Deborah Stearns from the Campus Hill Church; Peg Hempe of the Loma Linda University Church; and Antonio.
There are eight categories of single mothers, explains Antonio, those divorced, widowed, separated, never-married, adoptive, foster, married single and military wife. Each has special needs of her own. In small groups these single mothers brainstormed about the types of programs they would like to see the organization make available.
